Nvidia has acquired Israeli AI startup Run:ai for about $700 million.

RunAI, founded in 2018, has been developing software that optimizes GPU resource utilization. This technology supports efficient learning and inference of AI models and is closely linked to NVIDIA’s GPUs.
This acquisition appears to be part of NVIDIA’s strategy to strengthen its dominance in the AI ecosystem. With RunAI’s technology, NVIDIA plans to integrate GPU orchestration capabilities into its AI platform, DGX Cloud. This is expected to allow companies to manage and optimize AI models more efficiently.
However, the acquisition has been subject to regulatory scrutiny. The European Commission investigated Nvidia’s dominance in the GPU market, but eventually approved the acquisition. Meanwhile, the U.S. Department of Justice is still investigating the deal, fearing it could stifle competition in the AI space.
RunAI announced that it will open source its software along with the acquisition. This will allow RunAI’s software to be used on a variety of hardware, including not only NVIDIA, but also AMD, Intel, and others, which is expected to have a positive impact on the entire AI ecosystem.
Through this acquisition, NVIDIA is expected to further strengthen its competitiveness in AI hardware and software and expand its dominance in the AI market.
