Ongjin County announced that it has successfully completed the ‘2024 Local Color Landscape Improvement Project’, which was promoted with the goal of creating a dignified and beautiful aesthetic landscape. This project focused on simultaneously improving the regional image and the quality of life of residents by creating a unified landscape while preserving the unique characteristics of the region.
The ‘Local Color Landscape Improvement Project’ is a project that establishes a color plan that reflects the cultural, historical, and natural characteristics of each region in cooperation with local residents and carries out actual landscape improvement based on this. In particular, Ongjin-gun invested 1.1 billion won in this project and applied unique colors and designs to 108 walls and 134 village areas. This work created a balanced landscape for the region and provided aesthetic satisfaction to residents.
This project included various elements such as murals, color correction of building exteriors, and improvement of design of public facilities. The mural work was done with themes expressing the traditions and culture of the region, and the exterior walls of buildings and public facilities harmoniously reflected modern sensibilities and traditional colors to maximize the unique charm of the region. In addition, color unification work of public spaces such as roadsides and parks was done to create a consistent landscape throughout the region.
An Ongjin County official said, “This project has contributed greatly to enhancing the psychological stability and self-esteem of local residents beyond simple aesthetic improvements,” and added, “The beautiful landscape provides a positive experience for both residents and visitors, and we expect it to contribute to revitalizing the local economy.” He added, “We will continue to pursue landscape creation projects that embody the unique identity of Ongjin County.”

Based on the success of this project, Ongjin County plans to expand additional landscape improvement projects and resident participation projects in the future. Through these efforts, Ongjin County will strive to improve the quality of life of local residents and promote Ongjin County’s unique charm to outside visitors.
