Samsung Electronics has introduced a feature in the United States that allows users to order groceries directly from their refrigerators using artificial intelligence (AI) technology. Samsung announced on January 2 (local time) that it has signed a multi-year partnership with Instacart, the largest online grocer in the United States.

This will allow US consumers to shop for groceries directly from the screen of their Samsung Bespoke refrigerator. Using Samsung’s Vision AI food recognition technology, it will identify the food inside the refrigerator, suggest items that are missing through Instacart’s product matching API, and order them directly from the refrigerator.
The feature will be available on 2025 Bespoke refrigerator models with AI Vision Inside and the 32-inch and 9-inch AI Home screens, with existing AI Family Hub devices set to receive firmware upgrades starting later this year. Samsung says the AI can recognize up to 37 different food items, including fruits and vegetables. You can also manually enter other items into your food list via the Samsung Food app on your refrigerator or phone.
“The combination of Samsung’s core technologies and Instacart’s outstanding online grocery shopping platform will be a great example of new convenience,” said Seungmoon Jeong, vice president of Samsung Electronics. “We dreamed of a refrigerator that could fill itself, and now, thanks to our collaboration with Samsung, that’s no longer science fiction,” said Daniel Danker, chief product officer of Instacart.
Meanwhile, this feature is only available in areas where Instacart service is available, and there is no date yet for expansion to other areas.
