On January 1, 2025, Yongin Special City announced that the Anseong-Yongin-Guri section of the Sejong-Pocheon Expressway, a metropolitan transportation network connecting Yongin from the north to the south, will open. With this opening, the travel time from Anseong to Guri will be shortened from 88 minutes to 39 minutes, and transportation conditions in Yongin are expected to improve dramatically.

The Sejong-Pocheon Expressway is a large-scale expressway with a total length of 176.3 km that connects Pocheon, Gyeonggi Province to Sejong City. The Anseong-Yongin-Guri section that is opening this time is a large-scale project with a national budget of 7.4367 trillion won, with six lanes in each direction. This section will cut through the Yongin area from north to south and form a new metropolitan traffic axis following the Gyeongbu Expressway.
The 72.2km section from Anseong to Guri via Yongin can be traveled by car in approximately 39 minutes, a reduction of 49 minutes from the previous 88 minutes. In particular, the Yongin section (26km) has four major transportation facilities, including the Buk Yongin IC, Nam Yongin IC, Buk Yongin Junction, and Yongin Junction, which has greatly improved regional accessibility.

The Cheoin Rest Area, located in Mohyeon-eup, Cheoin-gu, Yongin, is designed as a ring-shaped, sky-high structure. The rest area, with a total floor area of 7,946㎡, consists of one underground floor and three above-ground floors, and its unique design is expected to provide visitors with a new experience.

Mayor Lee Sang-il of Yongin Special City said that the opening of the Sejong-Pocheon Expressway will establish it as a major transportation network connecting Seoul, northern Gyeonggi, and Chungcheong. He also mentioned plans to expand additional metropolitan transportation networks, such as the Yongin-Chungju Expressway and the 2nd Yeongdong Connection Expressway, and emphasized that he will focus his administrative power on building road and rail networks to grow Yongin into the world’s largest semiconductor cluster.
Along with the opening of this expressway, Yongin is also promoting the improvement project of Provincial Road No. 321 and Urban Planning Road (So1-26). The expansion of Provincial Road No. 321 to four lanes is a key task to increase the convenience of expressway users and alleviate local traffic congestion.
