Seoul Facilities Corporation (Chairman Han Kook-young) announced that it will hold the ‘New Alchemist’ art exhibition at the Cheonggyecheon shantytown theme zone in Seongdong-gu from December 31 to May 9 next year. This exhibition will feature around 20 works by seven Hongik University Metal Sculpture Design student artists using various eco-friendly materials under the theme of ‘Humans and Nature’.

‘New Archimist’ means ‘new alchemist’ and attempts an artistic approach to recreate materials that are commonly discarded in everyday life with new value. In particular, this exhibition presents creative and unique works such as a lamp made from discarded seaweed stems and a sculpture using plastic bottle caps.

Major works include “With” by Choi Hye-ju. This work is a light fixture made from discarded seaweed stems, expressing the coexistence of humans and the environment. Also, “Plaud” by Han Seung-han is a work that melts plastic bottle caps and recreates them into cloud-shaped sculptures, showing the duality of convenience and environmental pollution.

This exhibition is open from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM and is closed every Monday. Admission is free for all citizens. For more information, contact the Seoul Facilities Corporation (02-2290-7134).

The chairman of the Korea-Young Seoul Facilities Corporation said, “Through this exhibition, you will be able to appreciate the process of transforming everyday eco-friendly materials into works of art,” and added, “We will continue to organize various events so that Cheonggyecheon can establish itself as an ecological cultural space in the city center.”

Meanwhile, Seoul Facilities Corporation recently held the ‘Winter Festival Winterland’ at Seoul Children’s Grand Park so that citizens could feel the warm emotions of winter, and is continuously expanding public services for the safety and convenience of citizens’ daily lives, such as providing a ‘Travel Time Forecast Service’ that provides expected vehicle travel times by time zone on major roads such as Olympic-daero and Gangbyeonbuk-ro.
