The statement expressed expectations that Mayor Lee Sang-il’s proactive city administration, including attracting the semiconductor national industrial complex, lifting the Songtan water source protection zone, and creating an industrial complex for relocated companies, will help Yongin leap forward as a central city for future cutting-edge industries.

Mayor Lee Sang-il attended the Yongin Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s New Year’s greetings meeting and said, “Late last year, the development of a national industrial complex in Idong and Namsa-eup was approved, and the size of the industrial complex was expanded to 2.35 million pyeong.” He emphasized, “We will communicate closely with the immigrants and the immigrant companies to resolve the issue so that compensation and relocation proceed smoothly.”

In addition, he explained that they are working with related organizations such as the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) to prepare specific support measures such as expanding compensation for large-scale land and exempting acquisition taxes for large-scale land compensation. In addition, he said that they plan to expand the participation of local residents by entrusting the removal of obstacles and tree transplantation projects to local residents in the form of a contract.

Mayor Lee Sang-il said, “SK Hynix will begin construction of the first fab of the semiconductor cluster in Wonsam-myeon, Yongin this year, and will utilize local resources worth about 450 billion won, including local manpower, materials, and equipment, in accordance with an agreement with the city,” adding, “We will continue the agreement to actively utilize local resources when constructing the second, third, and fourth fabs.”

He added that he would focus on revitalizing the economy and supporting companies in Yongin by signing a regional resource utilization agreement with Samsung Electronics, which is building the 6th fab in the national industrial complex.

Yongin Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chairman Lee Tae-yeol said, “The establishment of a national industrial complex and an industrial complex for relocated companies are important stepping stones to making Yongin a true center of future cutting-edge industries,” adding, “I would like to express my deepest gratitude for the leadership of Mayor Lee Sang-il and the hard work of Yongin City officials.”

Yongin Special City plans to continue cooperation with companies to successfully develop national industrial complexes and revitalize the local economy, and to promote policies that benefit both citizens and companies.
