Yongin Special City (Mayor Lee Sang-il) announced on the 20th that it won the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Award at the ‘2024 Sustainable Transportation City Evaluation’ hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. This award is the result of the city’s various policies for energy conservation and traffic congestion improvement being officially recognized for their achievements.
The evaluation was conducted on 19 (multi)groups of urban-rural composite cities with a population of 300,000 or more. Yongin Special City was selected as the target after receiving high scores across 27 indicators in four categories: △Expansion of eco-friendly car conversion, △Strengthening of energy-saving public transportation system, △Support for non-powered and carbon-free transportation, and △Securing traffic safety and mobility rights.
In particular, it received high evaluations for K-Pass usage rate and public transportation transport share. Yongin City actively utilized K-Pass, which provides nationwide public transportation discount benefits, and recorded 0.027 people per capita, which is significantly higher than the group average usage rate of 0.013 people last year.
The policy for the convenience of transportation for the transportation disadvantaged also received good scores. The boarding and alighting and pedestrian environments at 1,017 bus stops on 16 routes where low-floor buses operate were investigated to improve the inconvenient environment.
It also achieved great results in responding to future mobility. The city established a future mobility team in line with the mobility era, began a basic plan research service, and introduced demand-responsive transit (DRT) to provide a customized transportation policy centered on users, receiving high praise.
With this, Yongin Special City has won the top prize in the ‘Sustainable Transportation City Evaluation’ for the first time in 9 years since 2015. It has continued to achieve results, including winning the grand prize last year, the excellence award in 2022 and 2021, and the development award in 2020.
