Yongin Special City is pushing ahead with major projects in the environment, water supply and sewage sectors with large budgets in 2025. Various projects are underway, including the creation of a green eco-park and expansion of water purification plants to create a sustainable, eco-friendly city and establish a stable water supply and sewage management system.

Yongin Special City announced that it will allocate a large budget of KRW 3.3318 trillion in the 2025 budget to the environment and waterworks sectors to promote various eco-friendly policies and infrastructure expansion projects. This environment sector budget is KRW 225.29 billion, which is 7.38% of the entire general account budget. Major projects include KRW 950 million for creating a firefly habitat, KRW 120 million for preventing green algae in Giheung Reservoir, and KRW 177 million for a feasibility study on restoring the aquatic ecosystem of Yulgokcheon and reducing non-point pollution.
58 million won will be invested to support the installation and improvement of safety facilities at six hazardous chemical handling facilities, 100 million won to create heat wave response shelters, and 1 billion won to create Yongin Green Eco Park to promote waste resource recycling. A project to improve waste management efficiency in the Suji and Heungdeok areas through conversion to automatic collection facilities will also be fully implemented.
In the sewerage sector, 200.5 billion won will be invested, of which 185 billion won will be from special accounts and 15.5 billion won from general accounts. 35.65 billion won was allocated as a budget for private investment projects to create eco-towns, and 36 billion won was allocated for sewage treatment plant improvement projects such as the Sang-Hyeon Lespia improvement. 5.6 billion won was allocated for the maintenance of sewage pipes in the Nam-Sa, Gomae, and Cheon-Ri treatment areas, 2.3 billion won for the improvement of rainwater pipes in the Pungdeokcheon flood-damaged area, and 2.8 billion won for the maintenance of old sewage pipes.
In the water supply sector, a budget of 95.1 billion won has been allocated, and major projects include 3.5 billion won for land compensation for the Osan Reservoir installation project, 3.1 billion won for old pipe maintenance project, and 2.8 billion won for block system installation project. Through the installation of Dongcheon Pressure Station small hydro power plant, it is expected to generate electricity sales revenue and reduce greenhouse gases at the same time. In addition, the water pipe expansion project and the Yongin Water Purification Plant expansion project to solve the problem of poor water supply in some areas of Cheoin-gu and Suji-gu are scheduled to be completed.
Through these projects, Yongin Special City plans to provide citizens with a clean environment and stable water supply, and lay the foundation for a leap forward as a sustainable, eco-friendly city. City officials said they will strive to make Yongin competitive as a city of the future by expanding its environmental and water supply infrastructure.
