Incheon Jung-gu (District Mayor Kim Jeong-heon) announced on the 17th that it will provide free support for the installation of ‘openable security windows’ to prevent flood damage in semi-basement houses.
The core of this project is to install openable security windows free of charge so that residents of semi-basement houses can quickly escape through the windows in the event of flooding, as torrential downpours are becoming more frequent due to rapid climate change.
The ‘opening security window’ cannot be opened from the outside, so it provides a security function in normal times, and in the event of a disaster, it can be opened from the inside, so it can be used as an emergency escape route. This is a solution that can solve the problem of the front door not opening due to water pressure in a flooded situation due to the structure of a semi-basement house.
Anyone who has registered their move into Jung-gu and lives in a semi-basement house can apply, and the application period is from January 16 to February 7. Applications can be submitted by visiting the Jung-gu Office Construction and Safety Team (80 Sinpo-ro 27beongil) or by mail.
Support is limited to installing one window per household, and there is no separate cost burden. However, if there are many applicants, priority will be given to ▲semi-basement housing in areas at risk of flooding ▲vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children, and the disabled, within the budget.

A Jung-gu official said, “We will find support targets early and proactively prevent damage,” and added, “We ask for your interest and participation to prevent damage from flooding in semi-basement houses and ensure the safety of residents.”
