Actively promoting recycling of discarded banners… Expecting environmental protection and economic benefits

Incheon Jung-gu is strengthening its support project for recycling waste banners with the goal of reducing carbon emissions. Last year alone, 7,383 waste banners were recycled to produce 850 eco-bags and toppers.

Incheon Jung-gu (District Mayor Kim Jeong-heon) announced on the 13th that it will actively promote the “2024 Banner Recycling Support Project” and, through this, contribute to preventing environmental pollution and achieving carbon neutrality in daily life. The key to this project is to create new value, rather than simply discarding banners.

Recycling of discarded banners is mainly done by collecting discarded banners and making them into eco-bags or advertising toppers. This reduces the pollutants generated by discarded banners, reduces processing costs, and has a great effect on environmental protection.

Jung-gu collected a total of 15,686 illegal banners in 2024, and recycled 7,383 of them to make 850 eco-bags. In particular, they succeeded in making high-quality eco-bags by collaborating with a domestic company with specialized technology in the recycling process. The company is known to be the first in Korea to obtain a patent for recycling waste banners.

The eco-bags produced are delivered to low-income and underprivileged residents in 12 districts in Jung-gu, contributing to the convenience of residents’ lives and environmental protection. The toppers produced are also actively used in environmental campaigns and resident events, delivering positive messages to the local community.
