Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that all four students who graduated from the 2024 Dream Plus School high school course achieved the great feat of finding employment and going on to university.
‘Dream Plus School’ is a district-run alternative educational institution for youth with developmental disabilities, and is a special educational space operated by the district to guarantee the right to education for youth with disabilities. Currently, 18 middle and high school students with developmental disabilities are enrolled in the school, and they are supported to grow into healthy members of society through customized education that takes into account each student’s characteristics and capabilities.

The four graduates of the 2024 school year have taken their first steps toward a bright future by successfully finding employment and advancing to higher education as ▲ members of the orchestra of Com2uS With, a subsidiary of Com2uS Co., Ltd. ▲ actors in the musical theater troupe ‘Laharp’ ▲ formally selected trainees at the Southern Developmental Disability Training Center ▲ students in the Able Art Department of Hyupsung University.
Student A, who initially had a strong aversion to breaking out of established patterns, expanded his range of behaviors by participating in various stimulating activity classes such as drum classes and sensory motor classes with the constant guidance and companionship of a special education teacher. As a result of these efforts, Student A was hired as a member of the orchestra.
In addition, Student B had difficulty performing regular tasks and concentrating for long periods of time, but he was able to develop his adaptability by experiencing various tasks at several vocational rehabilitation facilities for the disabled with his homeroom teacher. As a result, he received an offer from the last vocational training site saying, “We want to hire you right away.”
Student C, who wanted to enter university, studied the university’s educational goals with a special education teacher and prepared for the interview by personally writing a questionnaire. After more than three months of mock interviews, he was able to enjoy the joy of passing the actual interview, receiving praise for his “confident and smooth answers.”
In addition to the regular curriculum of Korean, English, and math, Dream Plus School also operates ▲career/specialization courses ▲creative experience activities ▲after-school program ‘English Special Spring School’ to help students find their own dreams, providing them with diverse experiences.
In particular, based on the ‘Individualized Education Plan (IEP)’ that covers basic subjects and life guidance, we have steadily improved the individual capabilities of students by operating personalized career consulting and field training for high school students throughout the year. In addition, we have not spared systematic support by preparing students for their career paths after graduation through continuous consultations with their guardians at least twice a year.
Yeongdeungpo-gu District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon said, “The dazzling achievements of this year’s graduates are the result of the students’ determination and the loving efforts of special education teachers, and will serve as a seed of great hope for our juniors.” He added, “We will continue to do our best to realize Yeongdeungpo as a future education city where everyone can freely pursue their dreams through educational policies that do not exclude others.”
