Ongjin-gun is embarking on a project to solve seawater intrusion and road maintenance problems centered on Deokjeok-myeon Bokri. On the 8th, the county announced that it held a final report meeting on the ‘Deokjeok Bokri Seawater Intrusion Road Maintenance Promotion Plan Establishment and Cost-Saving Measure Review Service’ commissioned to the Incheon Research Institute in July 2024.
Deokjeok Welfare Area is an area where seawater overflows into the roads during the fishing season, causing damage to nearby residential areas, and is considered a major issue area that threatens the safety and living environment of residents.
This service focused on establishing a comprehensive improvement plan to resolve the road flooding and seawater infiltration problems in Deokjeok Bokri. The service results concluded that new road maintenance work and installation of prevention facilities were necessary, and in particular, the direction of expanding and repairing the existing road was suggested as a way to minimize damage to residents and nearby farms.
Originally, Ongjin County planned to complete the basic plan for the maintenance work by the second half of 2023 based on the service results and hold a resident briefing session in the first half of 2024. However, the project was difficult due to differences in opinions between residents and Ongjin County regarding the implementation method. Accordingly, the county requested a technical feasibility review from the Incheon Research Institute. Through this, the plan is to devise the optimal solution that reflects the opinions of local residents. An Ongjin County official emphasized the will of the project, saying, “We will pursue a plan that maximizes the safety and convenience of residents at the lowest cost.”
