Mayor Park Hyung-deok of Dongducheon, who took office in July 2022, has been running tirelessly for the past two and a half years based on the vision of “Renewing Dongducheon and Empowering Citizens!” Under the municipal administration philosophy of “The Answer is in the Field,” he has worked closely with the central government and Gyeonggi Province to resolve the city’s major pending issues and secure future growth engines.
Mayor Park emphasized, “Last year, despite difficult circumstances, we secured 31.4 billion won in national and provincial funds and laid the foundation for major pledges and pending projects,” and “I will repay the expectations of 90,000 citizens with results during my term.”

[Key Achievements in 2024]
1. Transportation: GTX-C Line Dongducheon Extension Confirmed
In 2024, Dongducheon City led the confirmation of the GTX-C line extension to Dongducheon. As a result of the feasibility study, economic feasibility was secured, and the city is accelerating the project by accumulating a railway construction fund with the goal of opening the main line in 2028.

2. Education: Selection of special education development zones and training of future talents
Dongducheon City was selected as a model area for the Ministry of Education’s Education Development Special Zone and secured 6.1 billion won in national and provincial funds. It has established itself as an educational city through various projects such as operating elementary care smart shuttle buses and operating SW·AI leading schools.
3. Economy: Success of public offering and attraction of polytechnic education institute
Through national and Gyeonggi-do public contests, large-scale national and provincial funds were secured, and many public facilities were built for the convenience of citizens. In addition, the establishment of the Dongducheon Polytechnic Institute has been confirmed, and it is planned to train 1,500 talents annually when it opens in 2027.
4. Welfare: Customized welfare policies and support closely related to daily life
Innovative welfare policies such as elderly hospital accompaniment services, establishment of senior centers and disabled centers, and AI digital care services have been implemented. The quality of life of citizens has been improved by eliminating welfare blind spots and establishing a customized support system for each generation.

5. Facilities: Significant improvement of urban infrastructure
In 2024, the living environment of residents was greatly improved with the opening of the Community Center, the Multicultural Community Center, and the Songnae-dong Administrative Welfare Center in succession in Dongducheon City Center.

Mayor Park set 2025 as the year of fruition for the 8th local government, and presented five major goals: ▲a vibrant economic city ▲a welfare city with care ▲an educational city that opens the future ▲a citizen-centered space ▲a cultural and tourism city.
