Filled with Love… Yeongdeungpo-gu, Starts First ‘Volunteer Day’ Activities of the New Year

Yeongdeungpo-gu will hold a ‘dumpling making service’ on the 18th to share warmth with neighbors in need during the Lunar New Year holiday. This service will be held at the district office’s shared kitchen, ‘Hamkkeukkuk’, and around 30 district office staff members and volunteers, including district head Choi Ho-kwon, will participate, it was announced.

‘Volunteer Day’, which is now in its third year, is held every third Saturday of the month as a place for district office workers and residents to practice love for their neighbors. As the first volunteer activity, they will make 1,000 dumplings themselves, package them with rice cakes and broth, and deliver them to 100 households in local children’s centers and single-person households.

Yeongdeungpo-gu has been carrying out various volunteer activities such as outings for the elderly, shopping with children with developmental disabilities, and distribution of food to the homeless, thereby raising the safety and sense of community in the local community. In particular, it is said that last year, thanks to the ‘rainwater drain cleaning’ in preparation for the rainy season, not a single case of flooding occurred.

Mayor Choi Ho-kwon said, “I will pay close attention to ensure that all residents can enjoy a comfortable holiday,” and “This year, we will carry out various volunteer activities that can add warmth and safety to the local community.” For inquiries about Yeongdeungpo-gu’s Volunteer Day activities, contact the Autonomous Administration Division (☎02-2670-3158).

Such volunteer activities serve as a stepping stone to strengthen the network of local communities and provide warmer care to marginalized neighbors. Expectations are high for Yeongdeungpo-gu’s continued efforts in the future.
