Goyang Special City held the ‘K-Pop Flower Pop Goyang Christmas Festival’ at Ilsan Culture Square for 12 days from December 20 to 31 last year, and achieved great success. This festival was held in the Ilsan Culture Square area centered around the Goyang Tourism Information Center, and presented various contents with Christmas and flower themes.
Beautiful light sculptures were installed throughout the festival grounds and were lit every evening from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., and a splendid media façade video was projected on the exterior wall of the Goyang Tourism Information Center, presenting visitors with a fantastic winter night scene.
In particular, the busking performances by local artists every weekend further heightened the festival atmosphere with carols and K-pop music. On December 24th and 25th, special performances featuring popular pop singers and dance teams were held in conjunction with the Gyeonggi-do Cultural Seasons Project, and received a hot response with approximately 8,000 visitors over the two days.
Inside the Goyang Tourism Information Center, a Christmas market was held, selling handicrafts and Goyang City branded tourist souvenirs, and various promotions and events were also held. Visitors could receive souvenirs such as magnets, eco bags, and fabric calendars by authenticating their receipts for consumption within the Goyang Tourism Special Zone, and approximately 1,200 visitors who participated in the satisfaction survey received LED roses as gifts.
Additionally, the indoor shelter decorated with a Christmas concept offered Christmas cookies and bangshow developed in collaboration with a youth cafe, providing a warm resting space for visitors.
This festival is significant in that it went beyond government-led one-sided operation and contributed to the actual revitalization of the local economy through cooperation with local commercial districts.
Goyang Special City Mayor Lee Dong-hwan said, “I am glad that the K-pop Flower Pop Goyang Christmas Festival has concluded successfully,” and “I hope that this festival will serve as an opportunity for Goyang City to grow into a must-visit Hallyu cultural city for foreign tourists.”
Meanwhile, this festival was selected for the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s ‘Tourism Special Zone Activation Support’ public contest and was promoted with support from national and provincial funds. It is planned to develop into sustainable tourism content in the future.
