Park Hye-jeong, a silver medalist at the Paris Olympics and a member of the Goyang Special City Hall weightlifting team, donated 10 million won to help low-income youth realize their dreams ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday. The donation will be used as a scholarship through the Gyeonggi Community Chest of Korea, and it is expected that this donation will spread the culture of donation and give hope to youth from difficult environments.

Goyang Special City (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) announced that it held a ceremony to present Park Hye-jeong’s 10 million won donation at the Mayor’s Office on the 15th. The event was attended by Park Hye-jeong, Goyang Special City Mayor Lee Dong-hwan, and officials from the Gyeonggi Community Chest of Korea.
The money donated by Park Hye-jeong will be used as a scholarship for low-income youth in the region. Through this, we plan to provide practical help to youth who are pursuing their dreams and preparing for the future despite economic difficulties.
Park Hye-jeong won the silver medal in weightlifting at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics and received national love. In particular, her achievements through tireless efforts despite adversity have become a model for athletes, and she has established herself as a sports icon representing Goyang Special City.
Park Hye-jeong said, “The support of the people was the driving force that allowed me to achieve good results at the Paris Olympics,” and added, “I hope that this donation will be of some help to young people so that they do not become discouraged and can achieve their dreams.”
Mayor Lee Dong-hwan said about Park Hye-jeong’s donation, “I am deeply grateful for the large donation despite the difficult economic situation,” and “I believe that the donation will be an opportunity to give courage and hope to young people in difficult situations.” He also sent a message of support, saying, “I hope that Park Hye-jeong will achieve even better results in the competitions she participates in in the future and bring honor to Goyang Special City and the Republic of Korea.”
At this ceremony, Goyang City expressed its active support for the bid for the 2036 Seoul Olympics. Goyang Special City expressed confidence that it can hold a successful event that lives up to the motto of an eco-friendly Olympics by utilizing existing infrastructure such as KINTEX and the Sports Complex. It also added its expectation that Seoul and Goyang City will be able to achieve balanced urban development through cooperation.
Park Hye-jeong’s donation this time is expected to go beyond simple financial support and become an exemplary case of an athlete fulfilling their social responsibility.
