Goyang Special City (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) achieved excellent results across the city administration by winning a total of 77 awards from central government agencies and related organizations in 2024. In particular, it demonstrated outstanding administrative capabilities in various fields, including the Grand Prize in the Comprehensive Evaluation of Cities and Countyes and the Prime Minister’s Award for the Republic of Korea City Awards.

Goyang Special City announced that it received a total of 77 institutional awards in evaluations conducted by central government agencies and various organizations in 2024. This is a result that shows consistent performance across the entire city administration, including municipal innovation, urban development, jobs, welfare, safety and environment, education and culture, and transportation.
Goyang City was selected as the best local government in the comprehensive evaluation of cities and counties in Gyeonggi Province, taking first place among 10 cities with a population of 500,000 or more. This is the second consecutive year that Goyang City has won the top award in both the government joint evaluation and the Gyeonggi Province comprehensive evaluation, proving that Goyang City’s administrative capacity is leading Gyeonggi Province.
In addition, it was recognized for its exemplary administrative operation as a basic local government by winning the grand prize at the ’16th Dasan Mokmin Award’ hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. It also won the Prime Minister’s Award at the ‘2024 Republic of Korea City Award’ hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport for its contribution to sustainable balanced development and improvement of safety and traffic environment.
Goyang City received high marks for improving citizen safety and traffic environment with its ‘Central Smart City Development Project’ and ‘Intelligent CCTV and Integrated Control Center Operation’, and was selected as the best organization in the ‘2024 Sustainable Transportation City Evaluation’ hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport with its ‘Car-Free Street Project’, ‘All Citizens Bicycle Safety Insurance’, and ‘Pedestrian Underdeveloped Area Improvement Project’.
The achievements in responding to the aging society were also remarkable. In the ‘National Local Government Heads’ Manifesto Best Practice Competition’, the company won first place in the field of alleviating economic inequality through the operation of a market-type senior job creation business unit, winning the grand prize.
Efforts to overcome the low birth rate crisis were also recognized. Through customized support policies such as childbirth support funds, first meeting voucher support, and operation of the ‘Daumoa Childcare e’ system, the city won the grand prize in the ‘2024 National Representative Brand Awards’ in the category of cities good for raising children.
In the employment policy sector, various employment policies for young people and vulnerable groups, such as the ‘Goyang Customized Job School’, ‘Cheongchwi Tea House’, and ‘Tomorrow’s Dream Factory’, received excellent evaluations and won the Minister’s Award for two consecutive years at the ‘2024 Republic of Korea Job Awards’.
In addition, through efforts such as operating a ‘Mobile Local Regulatory Reporting Center’, resolving corporate difficulties, and improving citizen welfare, it was selected as an excellent local government in the ‘2024 Local Regulatory Innovation Performance Evaluation’ and also won the grand prize in the ‘2024 Gyeonggi-do Corporate SOS Evaluation’.
Goyang Special City Mayor Lee Dong-hwan said, “This achievement is thanks to the citizens and public officials working together for the development of Goyang City,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to provide administrative services that citizens can feel and to achieve sustainable development.”
Goyang City is not satisfied with this achievement and plans to actively explore and implement policies in each field next year to improve the quality of life of citizens and establish a foundation for sustainable growth.
