Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeong Won-oh) will continue to implement the ‘Language and Qualification Exam Fee Support Project’ in 2025 to ease the burden of job preparation for young people. This policy, which was first introduced in August of last year, is providing practical help to young people and is receiving a favorable response from many.

In this era of high prices, one of the biggest obstacles for young people preparing for employment is the financial burden. Seongdong-gu has faced this reality and prepared a special gift in the form of support for exam fees so that young people can gain confidence by obtaining qualifications and strengthening their language skills.
The exam fee support project is for unemployed youth aged 19-39 living in Seongdong-gu, and provides support of up to 100,000 won once in a lifetime for exam fees for approximately 900 types of exams, including language exams (TOEIC, HSK, JLPT, etc.), national technical and professional qualification exams, and private qualification exams. Youth working less than 30 hours a week or working short-term for less than 3 months are also eligible for support.
Last year, 480 young people received support for their exam fees through this project. In particular, language exams such as TOEIC took up the largest proportion at 69.5%, while technical and private qualification exams such as computer proficiency and data analysis specialist were also very popular.
Seongdong-gu Mayor Jeong Won-oh said, “I hope that the application fee support project will be of practical help in developing the abilities and capabilities of young people,” and added, “Seongdong-gu will continue to do its best to create an environment where young people can be healthy and independent.”
Applications for support are accepted online from the 1st to the 15th of each month at the Seongdong-gu Office website, and the actual expenses are paid at the end of each month after confirmation of eligibility. This only applies to exams taken after December 2024, so young people should hurry and prepare their applications.
Seongdong-gu’s exam fee support project is more than just providing financial assistance; it is also meaningful in that it provides a foundation for young people to believe in their own potential and challenge themselves to achieve higher dreams. A small support that changes the life of a young person will be the beginning of enriching the local community.
