Songpa-gu, Seoul announced that it has raised the unit price of the child meal card (Dream Tree Card), which supports children from economically disadvantaged families so that they do not skip meals, to 9,500 won starting this year. This reflects the recent rise in prices, and an additional 500 won will be provided from last year’s unit price of 9,000 won to improve the quality of children’s meals.
The Dream Tree Card is a system that provides meal expenses other than school meals to children and adolescents under 18 years of age who are at risk of skipping meals, and Songpa-gu plans to support 1,287 children this year through this system. To this end, the district operated a concentrated application period for the child meal card in December of last year ahead of winter vacation, discovered additional beneficiaries to prevent any blind spots in meal provision, and secured a budget of 3.6 billion won.
Children eligible for the Dream Tree Card can receive meals worth up to 28,500 won per day at local children’s centers, group meal facilities, and Dream Tree Card member stores in Songpa-gu. As of December last year, there were 5,328 member stores, and various businesses such as Korean, Western, Chinese, bakeries, and fast food restaurants participated, so that children can have a wide range of choices.
In addition, Songpa-gu has prepared various measures to enable children to use the Dream Tree Card more conveniently. It has provided text messages on how to use the ‘Children’s Meal Card App (Seoul Dream Tree)’, which allows you to search for Dream Tree Card affiliated stores, and has introduced the usage method and recommended affiliated stores through the ‘Songpa TV-Song Jal-al-i Goes’ video introducing Dream Tree Card affiliated restaurants produced by the district. Through this, it is helping children to consume a balanced diet with various foods.
Songpa-gu District Mayor Seo Kang-seok said, “We are continuously expanding our support for child meals so that children in difficult environments can grow up healthy and happy,” and added, “We will continue to pay attention to residents in need of social consideration, such as low-income children, and practice ‘service administration’ without exclusion.”
In addition to this unit price increase, Songpa-gu plans to continue its efforts to strengthen the health and welfare of children and reduce blind spots in school meals in the region through efficient operation and expansion of the child meal card system.
