The Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation Gyeonggi Provincial Museum will host the <1st Museum Film Festival (MCF)> from January 10 to 26, 2025, with the theme of ‘When Museums Meet Film.’ This film festival will screen films that feature artifacts from the Joseon Dynasty and modern and contemporary history, and will provide a special experience of encountering actual artifacts in a museum.

The film festival will be held at the Museum Art Hall on the first floor of the Gyeonggi Provincial Museum, and will kick off with an opening ceremony at 5 p.m. on January 10. The film “The Face Reader” has been selected as the opening film, and various programs will follow every Saturday and Sunday from January 11 to 26.
This film festival consists of three sections. The first section, “Into Joseon Time,” explores the history and relics of the Joseon Dynasty through films such as “The King and the Clown,” “The Fatal Encounter,” and “The Royal Guard.” The second section, “Memories of the Light,” looks back on the Japanese colonial period and the 80th anniversary of liberation, and screens films such as “Assassination,” “Dongju,” and “Jasaneobo.” The last section, “Hwang Jini, Bringing Her Alive,” will shed light on historical figures through special screenings of the films “Hwang Jini” (2007) and “Hwang Jini” (1986).
In addition to the film screening, various side events are planned. The talk concert will feature film directors, actors, and curators, who will communicate with the audience about the relics in the film and the actual relics. This program, which will be held over a total of four times, is expected to present a new perspective on the convergence of film and museums. In addition, a symposium will be held under the theme of “Containing Diversity: Museums Leaping into Complex Cultural Spaces,” where museum and film industry experts will discuss the future possibilities of museums.
Special experience programs include a ‘Gardening APP Experience’ in which the audience can participate directly, and a New Year’s calligraphy experience. The unique content of the film and museum will provide a special time for the audience.
The film festival is free for all residents of the province, and tickets are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis on the day of the festival. Detailed schedules and programs can be found on the Gyeonggi Provincial Museum website or by calling the Museum Film Festival Office (031-288-5464).
Through this film festival, Gyeonggi Provincial Museum plans to explore the possibility of the museum growing beyond a simple exhibition space for relics into a complex cultural space, and provide cultural inspiration and learning to local residents.
