This year’s light festival stands out for the fact that it was held through the voluntary participation of citizens in the midst of a budget cut crisis. The ‘Sejong City Light Festival Citizen Promotion Group’, formed mainly by Sejong citizens, successfully led the event despite the short preparation period starting with the inauguration ceremony on October 30.

During the festival period, various programs such as the opening ceremony and Christmas Eve event were held, attracting not only Sejong citizens but also outside tourists, contributing to the revitalization of the local economy. The light festival is evaluated as having succeeded in establishing itself as a representative winter festival of Sejong City.

Citizen Promotion Group Standing Representative Im In-taek said, “This festival is very meaningful in that it was created through the power of citizens,” and added, “I hope that the light festival will be the first year of love for Sejong.”

Due to preparations for the closing ceremony, the Ieungdari Bridge will be completely closed from 10:00 AM on the 14th to 9:00 PM on the 15th on the day of the event. In addition, the road from the Southern Police Station roundabout to the Tax Office intersection will be closed from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM on the 15th.

The Sejong City Light Festival is a successful example of citizens’ passion and cooperation, and has become a representative winter festival of Sejong. The solidarity of citizens left behind by this festival is expected to have a positive effect on future event planning.
