Goyang City Hwajeong Library will hold a program called <Flower Shop> where children can meet with author Moon Myung-ye on January 18th at 2 PM. This event was planned so that children can discover small beauties in everyday life through picture books, empathize with the emotions of the main characters, and develop creativity.
Author Moon Myung-ye will tell children about the background and creative process of the picture book *<Flower Shop>*, as well as the story of how the manuscript and illustrations were completed. They will read the picture book together through a beam projector and talk about the excitement and courage in the first love story of the main character, ‘Little Bear’, and there will also be time for children to freely share their own experiences.
In addition, through post-reading activities, children are given the opportunity to explore the flowers and insects that appear in the book and experience the beauty of nature. *It is designed to allow children to feel nature and art up close through experiential programs such as ‘Flower Point Play’ and ‘Making Flower Fans’.
This event is for 30 children in grades 1-3 of elementary school. Parents and children who wish to participate can apply on a first-come, first-served basis through the Goyang City Library Center website (https://www.goyanglib.or.kr). For more information, contact Hwajeong Library (☎031-8075-9206).
An official from Goyang City Library said, “We hope that this program will be a meaningful time for children to experience creation and nature beyond the world of picture books,” and added, “We will continue to provide various reading culture programs that foster children’s sensibilities and stimulate creativity.”
This meeting with the author of <Flower Shop> is expected to be a special experience where children can learn the value of excitement and courage through the stories and activities in the book, and develop creativity through nature and art.
