A Taegeukgi sculpture containing the identity of Sejong City, the city of Hangul culture, has been installed at the Eojin-dong Eojin intersection. This sculpture uniquely expresses the symbolism of Hangul and Taegeukgi, emphasizing the unique characteristics of Sejong City and serving to inspire patriotism and cultural pride among residents and visitors.
This Taegeukgi sculpture, installed as part of the 2024 Eojin-dong Residents’ Wish Project, is expected to reveal the city identity of Sejong City, which inherited the temple name and spirit of King Sejong, and to establish itself as a local landmark representing Eojin-dong and Sejong City. The sculpture is a symbolic design that combines Hangul and the Taegeukgi, further highlighting Sejong City’s value as a Hangul cultural city.

With the installation of the Taegeukgi sculpture, major landmarks in Eojin-dong are also expected to draw attention. Places with high cultural and historical value, such as the rooftop garden of the government building, the Presidential Archives, and Choryeo History Park, will be introduced along with the sculpture, adding to the promotional effect of informing visitors about the charm of Sejong, the city of Hangul culture.
Shin Young-ho, the head of Eojin-dong, said that the Taegeukgi sculpture will not only instill pride in the residents of Eojin-dong, but will also be a meaningful piece that unites the legacy of King Sejong and the spirit of the Taegeukgi, thereby illuminating the identity of Sejong City.
Meanwhile, Sejong City was finally designated as the ‘Korean Culture City of the Republic of Korea’ by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism at the end of last year, and is currently carrying out various specialized projects to strengthen its status as a center of Korean culture this year. The installation of the Taegeukgi sculpture this time is part of such efforts, and is a symbolic step taken by Sejong City to widely promote Hangeul and cultural identity.
