The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Jeong Geun-sik) held the ’10th Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education Student Human Rights Day Commemoration Ceremony’ at the Yajugae Hall of the Seoul Museum of History on January 17. This event was held to raise awareness of student human rights and expand participation, and it is now in its 10th year since its first implementation in 2016.
The ceremony began with an opening speech by Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education Superintendent Jeong Geun-sik, followed by welcoming speeches by Student Human Rights Committee Chairperson Yoon Myeong-hwa and Student Participation Group representatives. In addition, congratulatory speeches were given by key figures such as Seoul Metropolitan Council Speaker Choi Ho-jeong and National Assembly Education Committee Chairperson Kim Young-ho, and congratulatory messages were introduced by superintendents of education across the country and district mayors of Seoul.

At the event, certificates of appreciation were awarded to those who contributed to the advancement of student human rights, and policy proposals prepared by the Seoul Student Participation Group through a deliberation process were delivered to the superintendent of education. Students, teachers, parents, and members of the Youth Participation Committee, as well as other educational stakeholders, attended the event, and Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education officials plan to actively reflect students’ voices in policies.
The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education plans to continue to provide support for the promotion of student human rights and the spread of a culture of mutual respect within schools. Superintendent Jeong Geun-sik said, “We will work to create a school culture where everyone in the community is respected.”
