Seongnam City’s special ‘Seongnam Love Gift Certificates’ issued for the Lunar New Year holiday are selling fast. A total of 68.6 billion won worth of gift certificates were sold in just 3 days of issuance, and paper gift certificates in particular are expected to sell out early, so citizens are urged to use card and mobile gift certificates.

Seongnam City announced that the ‘Seongnam Love Gift Certificates’ issued on the 6th to stimulate the local economy in preparation for the Lunar New Year had sold a total of 68.6 billion won as of 4:00 PM on the 8th. This is equivalent to 13.7% of the special issuance target of 500 billion won for the first quarter of this year.
Mobile gift certificates recorded a 20% sales rate, with 61.8 billion won of the 300 billion won issuance target for the first quarter being sold. Mobile gift certificates showed high sales because they can be easily purchased through the ‘Local Gift Certificate Chak’ app.
Paper gift certificates sold 6.8 billion won in just one day after sales began on the 8th. This is 68% of the 10 billion won currently secured, and early sellout is expected due to the rapid depletion rate. Accordingly, Seongnam City actively recommended the purchase of card-type gift certificates, the ‘Seongnam Love Card’, and mobile gift certificates until the resale of paper gift certificates.
Paper gift certificates will be resold after additional acquisition in cooperation with the Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation before the Lunar New Year holiday. However, card-type and mobile gift certificates can be purchased at any time. Card-type gift certificates can be issued and recharged immediately at 48 locations including NH Nonghyup Bank and individual agricultural and livestock cooperatives, and mobile gift certificates can be purchased through the ‘Local Gift Certificate Chak’ app.
Seongnam City has made it possible to purchase Seongnam Love Gift Certificates at a 10% discount of up to 500,000 won per month until March to revitalize the local economy. Citizens can enjoy special benefits worth a total of 500 billion won, including 300 billion won in mobile (including card) gift certificates and 200 billion won in paper gift certificates.
Paper gift certificates can be purchased by presenting your ID at 120 locations in the area, including NH Nonghyup Bank, individual agricultural and livestock cooperatives, credit unions, and Saemaul Geumgo. Mobile gift certificates can be issued and recharged immediately through the ‘Local Gift Certificate Chak’ app, and card-type gift certificates can be issued and recharged immediately at NH Nonghyup Bank and individual agricultural and livestock cooperatives.
A Seongnam City official said, “Seongnam Love Gift Certificates are quickly running out as we approach the Lunar New Year holiday,” and added, “Paper gift certificates will be resold quickly, so we ask that you use card and mobile gift certificates for the time being.”
