Yongin Special City Mayor Lee Sang-il attended ‘CES 2025’ held in Las Vegas, USA, to check the trends of artificial intelligence (AI) and semiconductor technology of global companies and explore ways to enhance the competitiveness of Yongin startups. He emphasized that support from the government and the National Assembly is important for corporate technological development and strengthening industrial competitiveness, and mentioned the urgency of enacting the Special Semiconductor Act.

Yongin Special City Mayor Lee Sang-il visited ‘CES 2025’, the world’s largest electronics fair held in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA on the 7th (local time), to check the development trends of cutting-edge technologies and discuss fostering measures to enhance the global competitiveness of Yongin companies.
The market visited the SK Hynix exhibition hall and exchanged opinions with officials about new technologies utilizing the 5th generation high bandwidth memory (HBM) and AI-based memory semiconductor technology. He showed great interest in the innovative technologies of Korean startup companies, including those in the Yongin area, and sought practical support measures to foster companies.

The market visited the ‘Yongin Special City Hall’ in the CES venue and toured Yongin’s startup booths, including ▲Curiosis ▲Mtake ▲WeRobotics, to cheer on the corporate officials. These booths were established after passing the screening of the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), the organizer of CES, in recognition of their technological prowess, and showed the potential for Yongin Special City startups to advance into the global market.
In addition to the Yongin Special City Hall booth, five startups, including CPIX, Digital Log Technologies, and NOEL, have been recognized for their technological prowess in the global market, drawing attention for their innovative technologies. In particular, in a meeting with Homes AI, which won the CES Innovation Award for its AI-based heart disease prediction platform technology, the mayor emphasized that “active support from the government and local governments is important in order to enhance the global competitiveness of cutting-edge technologies.”

This market emphasized that the government and the National Assembly have important roles to play in developing the semiconductor industry and fostering professional manpower. He said, “Overseas, companies are supported at the national level, but in our country, there is not even a special law on semiconductors,” and “The National Assembly should enact a special law within January so that talented people can develop innovative technologies in a flexible work environment.”
During this visit to CES, I also met with Victor Hoskins, the director of the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority in Virginia. The two cities are set to sign a friendship agreement on January 13, and Hoskins said, “I am impressed by the innovative technologies of Yongin companies, and I look forward to cooperation between companies in both regions.”

Mayor Lee Sang-il visited ▲Samsung C-LAB ▲LG NOVA exhibition hall ▲Israel pavilion at CES 2025 to see the innovative ideas and technologies of global startups. In particular, he showed interest in the driver muscle monitoring technology of Israeli startup ‘CorrActions’ and the renewable energy technology of ‘Sol Cold’, and discussed the possibility of cooperation with Yongin Special City.
The market emphasized, “Through CES, we were able to see the creative ideas of Korean startups and their potential in the global market,” and “The government, local governments, and companies must work together so that Yongin Special City can leap forward as the center of advanced technology in Korea.”
