To commemorate the designation of the area near Yaksu Station in Jung-gu, Seoul as a downtown public housing complex development district, a resident performance sharing meeting was held at Shindang Nuri Center on the 9th. This area, where a large-scale development project of 1,616 households is being promoted, has achieved the shortest approval rate in the country thanks to the active public support of Jung-gu and the cooperation of residents.

Jung-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Gil-seong Kim) announced that on the 9th, it held a resident performance sharing meeting to celebrate the designation of a downtown public housing complex project area near Yaksu Station at the main auditorium of Shindang Nuri Center.
The area of approximately 63,520㎡ in Sindangdong 349-200 was officially designated as an urban public housing complex by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on December 19th of last year. The area was designated 3 years and 4 months after it was selected as a business candidate upon the recommendation of Jung-gu, and as a result, the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) began to push ahead with the construction of a 30-story, 1,616-unit apartment complex as the business entity.
This performance sharing meeting was planned by the (temporary) residents’ council, which made it even more meaningful. Around 250 residents attended, and Jung-gu District Mayor Kim Gil-seong was invited to share the results with the residents. In addition to the Nanta performance, the event included a time to look back on the project process and results and encourage the residents’ hard work.
In particular, the residents expressed their gratitude for Jung-gu’s active support by presenting a plaque of appreciation to Mayor Kim. Jeong Chun-mo, the chairman of the (temporary) Residents’ Council, said, “Jung-gu has shown an example of cooperation for residents,” and “It has provided the highest level of support among the 25 district offices.” He also said, “The result of the complex district designation is thanks to the district office’s passionate support,” and requested continued cooperation so that the project can be successfully promoted in the future.
In response, Mayor Kim Gil-seong said, “Jung-gu is taking a leap forward as a new city,” and “We will increase the population inflow through a better residential environment and stable housing supply.” He also responded, “Jung-gu will always respect the will of residents and do its best to support them.”
The complex project near Yaksu Station is considered a representative example of ‘Jung-gu type public support’ along with Sindang 10-gu and Jungnim-dong 398. In particular, in February last year, the Yaksu Station complex project area recorded a resident consent rate of 67% to 70%, achieving the shortest consent rate among the candidates for downtown public housing complex projects nationwide. At the time, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced that it would only designate areas with a consent rate exceeding 50% as planned districts, so it attracted even more attention.
Jung-gu succeeded in gaining the trust of residents through active information provision and communication during this process. Accurate information was provided through the field support center and official SNS channels, and the consent rate status was disclosed daily to attract residents’ attention. In this way, despite it being a government-led project, the district actively supported the project by listening to the voices of residents, which led to results.
The complex project near Yaksu Station is scheduled to begin construction in 2028 and will go through several procedures, including forming a residents’ representative council, approving the complex project plan, and selecting a construction company.
