Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, 2024 Seoul Student Literacy and Numeracy Diagnostic Test Results Announced

The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Jeong Geun-sik) announced the results of the 2024 Seoul Student Literacy and Mathematical Ability Diagnostic Test on January 14. This test was conducted on approximately 94,000 students in 524 elementary, middle, and high schools in Seoul, and was used as a tool to comprehensively diagnose basic literacy and math skills.

This diagnostic test, which was first introduced nationwide in 2023, focuses on measuring students’ overall learning ability beyond checking basic academic ability. Individual students can take the test every two years to check their growth data, and this is expected to enable meaningful growth analysis starting in 2025.

The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education is continuously analyzing policy research and implementation results to secure the reliability of the test items and results. Accordingly, the test target has been significantly expanded from 210 schools and 44,000 students in 2023 to 524 schools and 94,000 students in 2024, and the results of a satisfaction survey conducted on teachers and parents showed that 83.9% of teachers had positive opinions about the appropriateness of the evaluation content, and 87.5% of teachers and 81.2% of parents were satisfied with the reliability of the test results.

The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education plans to continue to secure the reliability and validity of diagnostic tests and prepare various support measures to improve students’ literacy and math skills. In addition, it plans to reflect the results of satisfaction surveys to establish a more effective diagnostic system.
