Goyang Special City (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) announced that it held the **’Education Development Special Zone Pilot Area Project Promotion Report Meeting’** at Sonocam Goyang on the 26th and announced the status of the project promotion in 2024 and the project plan for 2025.
This report meeting was organized to review the performance of the Goyang City Education Development Special Zone project and discuss future strategies. Approximately 100 educational officials, including Goyang Education Support Office, EBS, Nonghyup University, Dongguk University, Joongbu University, Korea Aerospace University, Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education Media Education Center, Goyang Industry Promotion Agency, and school officials in the area, attended the event.
◆ Education Development Special Zone, Regional Cooperation Body Cooperation Pledge
The report meeting was attended by Mayor Lee Dong-hwan of Goyang City, Director Kim Jae-gyeong of Goyang Office of Education, Vice President Kim Seong-dong of EBS, President Son Byeong-hwan of Nonghyup University, President Lee Jeong-yeol of Joongbu University, President Heo Hee-young of Korea Aerospace University, Director of Administrative Affairs Kim Dae-young of Dongguk University, and principals of five specialized high schools in the region, who pledged to cooperate and operate the educational development special zone successfully.
Mayor Lee Dong-hwan of Goyang City emphasized, “In order to successfully operate the Goyang City Education Development Special Zone, cooperation between local cooperative organizations and elementary, middle, and high school officials is of utmost importance,” and added, “I hope that the various opinions discussed today will be reflected in policies so that Goyang City can foster customized talents.”
◆ Goals and strategies of Goyang City Education Development Special Zone
The Education Development Special Zone is a Ministry of Education public offering project that aims to innovate local education and foster local talent through cooperation between local governments, education offices, universities, local businesses, and public institutions. Goyang City was selected as the target site for the project in February of this year.
Goyang City Education Development Special Zone is being promoted under the vision of **’building a virtuous economic city where it is easy to be born, learn, and find employment’**, and its core goal is to foster talent based on 4th Industrial Revolution technology and media content industry.

Strengthening the linkage between elementary, middle, and high schools, universities, and industry

Through this strategy, Goyang City plans to foster practical talent linked to local industries and establish a virtuous cycle of education and employment.

Goyang City plans to systematically establish a business plan for 2025 based on the various opinions and cooperation plans discussed at this report meeting and complete a specialized education development special zone model unique to Goyang City.
Goyang City plans to foster future-competitive talent through public education innovation, training of cutting-edge technology talent, and regional industrial linkage, and prepare for a leap forward as a sustainable economic city.
