Mayor Lee Sang-il of Yongin Special City said in his New Year’s address, “Yongin Special City, which has firmly established the foundation of a global semiconductor hub city, will continue to take a leap forward in 2025.” Large-scale projects such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix’s large-scale semiconductor investment project and the Platform City project are expected to be launched in earnest this year and lead Yongin’s future growth.

Mayor Lee Sang-il of Yongin Special City announced in his New Year’s address for 2025 that the city’s leap forward will continue this year. He said, “Although the domestic and international environments are uncertain, Yongin will further strengthen its status as a global semiconductor hub city,” and promised successful implementation of large-scale projects.
This market mentioned the Advanced System Semiconductor National Industrial Complex, in which Samsung Electronics is investing 360 trillion won, and the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster, in which SK Hynix is investing 122 trillion won, and emphasized that “this year, construction of the first production line (fab) will begin, and Yongin’s semiconductor status will be elevated.” In addition, the Giheung-gu Platform City project, the development of the old police station site, and the reconstruction and remodeling projects of apartment complexes in Suji-gu will begin in earnest, and it was announced that the goal will be development in harmony with the lives of citizens.
The mayor said, “We will meticulously pursue the seven major municipal goals under the municipal vision of ‘Creating the Future Together, Yongin Renaissance.’”
Regarding the first goal of dynamic innovative growth, he said, “I will focus all administrative power on creating an L-shaped semiconductor mega cluster in Yongin and a cutting-edge industrial city that will attract the world’s attention.”
Regarding the second goal of balanced development where everyone can live well, he said, “We will thoroughly establish the 2040 Yongin City Basic Plan, the Basic Plan for Sewage Management, and Yongin Vision 2040 to prepare for Yongin’s future without any gaps.”
This market mentioned the major achievements made over the past two years and six months of the 8th local government, and listed notable achievements such as: △ Attracting Samsung Electronics’ Advanced System Semiconductor National Industrial Complex; △ Lifting the 19.5 million pyeong Songtan Water Source Protection Zone; △ Lifting the 1.13 million pyeong Gyeongancheon Waterside Zone; △ Stipulating the reinvestment of all development profits from Giheung-gu’s Platform City in Yongin; △ Confirming the construction of the Dongbaek IC on the Yeongdong Expressway; △ Attracting investment from global semiconductor equipment companies such as ASML, Lam Research, and Tokyo Electron.
In particular, he emphasized that these achievements served as the foundation for Yongin’s leap forward, and said, “I will do my best together with public officials to improve the quality of life of citizens and ensure Yongin’s sustainable development.”
The mayor quoted former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, saying, “A pessimist sees difficulty in every opportunity, but an optimist sees opportunity in every difficulty.” He expressed his determination to create the future of Yongin by finding opportunities even in the current difficult situation, and delivered a message of hope and positivity to the citizens.
