Goyang Special City (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) announced that it successfully held the ‘2024 Goyang City University Student Mentor Group Goyang Univ’ graduation ceremony at the Ilsanseo-gu Youth Training Center on the 23rd.
At this graduation ceremony, Goyang Special City Mayor Lee Dong-hwan attended as a ‘super mentor’ and encouraged the hard work of the college student mentors, and Goyang City Youth Foundation CEO Choi Hoe-jae also attended and expressed gratitude for the mentors’ dedication.
Role and Achievements of Goyang University Student Mentor Group
The Goyang University Student Mentor Group is a program started by local university students to help younger students plan their career paths. The mentors provide practical help to students through academic and career mentoring, and play a role as seniors in life, contributing to the growth of the local community.
Mayor Lee Dong-hwan encouraged them in his congratulatory speech, saying, “The Goyang City University Student Mentor Group is a great asset to our city,” and “Your activities have played a big role in helping young people develop their dreams.” He continued, “I look at the orange roses I received at the inauguration ceremony every day and think of your passion,” emphasizing his special connection with the mentor group.
Choi Hoe-jae, the CEO of the Goyang Youth Foundation, said, “The mentor group has been of great help to youth by going beyond introducing departments and providing practical career mentoring,” and “Your activities have played an important role in brightening the future of the local community.”
Graduation ceremony main contents
This graduation ceremony was divided into two parts.
In Part 1, Mayor Lee Dong-hwan and the college student mentor group freely communicated and had a sincere conversation. In Part 2 that followed, the 2024 mentor group activity results report was presented along with the 2025 business plan.
Over the past year, college student mentors have supported youths’ career exploration through various career mentoring and department introduction activities, and have strived to provide practical assistance.
One mentor said, “I was proud to be able to help the youth through this activity, and it was a valuable time for me to grow further,” and added, “I will continue to live by practicing sharing and consideration.”
Future plans
The 2024 Goyang University Student Mentor Group officially concluded its activities with a graduation ceremony, and more young people are expected to step forward to support the career paths of teenagers through the recruitment of new mentors in 2025.
Goyang City plans to continue to expand youth career support projects such as the college student mentoring group in the future to help youth grow into healthy members of society.
