Goyang Special City was selected as an excellent organization in the ‘2024 Korea Local Autonomy Competitiveness Index’ analysis conducted by the Korea Public Autonomy Research Institute. It was recognized as a competitive local government, receiving high evaluations in the management resource sectors such as urban infrastructure and industrial base.

Goyang Special City (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) announced that it was selected as an excellent organization in the ‘2024 Korea Local Autonomy Competitiveness Index (KLCI)’ analysis conducted by the Korea Public Autonomy Research Institute, an incorporated association, and received a certificate on the 19th.
Since 1996, the Korea Institute of Public Administration has been surveying and analyzing the competitiveness index of 226 local governments across the country in three sectors: management resources, management activities, and management performance. In this evaluation, Goyang City achieved excellent results in the management resources sector.
◇ Excellent evaluation in the management resources sector
Goyang City received a high score of 228.5 points out of 300 in the management resource area including human resources, urban infrastructure, and industrial base. This is a result reflecting the performance of the transportation and industrial infrastructure improvement project that Goyang City has continuously promoted.
◇ Key achievements and policy efforts
Goyang City has been working to strengthen urban competitiveness through innovative projects such as ▲development of Daegok Station area knowledge convergence complex ▲designation of the first venture promotion zone in northern Gyeonggi Province ▲creation of a mini hydrogen city. These policies are considered major achievements that have laid the foundation for economic revitalization and sustainable growth in the city.
◇ Goal of realizing a self-sufficient city
Goyang City plans to use this award as an opportunity to further enhance the city’s competitiveness and to spur the attraction of global companies and the fostering of cutting-edge industries by designating it as a free economic zone.
Goyang Special City Mayor Lee Dong-hwan said, “This certification as an excellent organization is the result of the dedication and efforts of citizens and public officials for the sustainable growth and development of Goyang City,” and added, “We will do our best to transform Goyang City into a competitive, self-sufficient city through the designation of a free economic zone and attraction of companies.”
◇ Future plans
Goyang City plans to continue to promote regional development by focusing on expanding urban infrastructure, sustainable economic growth, and attracting corporate investment. In addition, it plans to lead changes that citizens can feel through innovative policies and transparent administration.
This selection as an excellent organization is evaluated as an important achievement that has laid the foundation for Goyang City to continuously strengthen its urban competitiveness and grow into a self-sufficient city where it is good to live.
