Goyang Special City (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) announced that it will be publicly recruiting users of the free night parking lot at school facilities in the first half of 2025 until December 27.
Goyang City has been actively promoting a parking sharing system using a sharing economy model since 2021 to solve the parking shortage in downtown areas. This project is operated by opening parking lots attached to schools or commercial buildings to citizens, focusing on old downtown areas or areas with a high concentration of multi-family housing where it is difficult to secure public parking lots.
The parking sharing system is highly effective in alleviating parking shortages, especially by utilizing empty school parking spaces at night. The city is encouraging cooperation from schools by providing subsidies for open parking lots.
Currently, there are six schools that are implementing the parking sharing system: ▲Won-dang Elementary School (Jugyo-dong), ▲Yong-jeong Elementary School (Hwajeong 1-dong), ▲Jeo-dong High School (Jeongbalsan-dong), ▲Yul-dong Elementary School (Jeongbalsan-dong), ▲Naengcheon Elementary School (Madu 1-dong), and ▲Garam Elementary School (Haengsin 4-dong). Each school provides about 30 parking spaces, and citizens can use the spaces for free during nighttime hours.
Citizens who wish to use the service must visit the Goyang City Hall Parking and Traffic Division or the relevant administrative welfare center and submit an application form and related documents. Specific application methods and conditions can be found on the Goyang City Hall website notice board.
A Goyang City official said, “We plan to steadily expand the parking sharing system, focusing on areas with serious parking difficulties,” and “We will do our best to create a pleasant and safe parking environment by efficiently utilizing the limited parking space.”
This free nighttime parking lot opening project for school parking facilities is expected to improve parking convenience for citizens and provide practical help in solving parking problems in local communities.
