Yeongdeungpo-gu is investing a total of 1.24 billion won to create safe school routes within the children’s protection zone. This project is aimed at improving the pedestrian environment of six schools, including Sinyeong Elementary School and Daebang Elementary School, and major construction is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.
The district has focused on securing pedestrian walkways, moving away from simple safety facility installation and introducing a customized improvement project method. By September of this year, all construction work for the six child protection zones established last year has been completed, and next year, improvements are planned for 10 sections where pedestrian walkways have not been installed.

In this project, ‘unmanned surveillance cameras’ were installed in 7 places including Yeongjung Elementary School to prevent speeding and traffic signal violations, and ‘yellow carpets’ were introduced in two elementary schools to ensure children’s pedestrian safety. In addition, ‘runway-type crosswalks’ were installed in 16 places, and ‘blind spot warning signs’ were operated in 2 places to resolve visibility issues for pedestrians and drivers.
Yeongdeungpo-gu strengthened communication with parents, reviewed 16 requested safety facility installation items, and shared opinions through a joint on-site briefing session. Mayor Choi Ho-kwon said, “The creation of a safe school route for children’s protection zones is a project closely related to children’s safety,” and added, “We will strive for practical improvements through on-site investigations.”
In the future, Yeongdeungpo-gu plans to continue to expand the school route improvement project within the children’s protection zone.
