Goyang Special City (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) has been holding the *’2024 Neighborhood Communication Meeting’* from July to December to listen to citizens’ opinions on current municipal issues directly and reflect them in policies. This meeting started in Daehwa-dong, Ilsanseo-gu on July 22 and ended in Samsong 2-dong, Deokyang-gu on December 26, and a total of 211 residents’ suggestions were received from 44 neighborhoods in Goyang City.

Mayor Lee Dong-hwan said, “The voice of each and every resident is the driving force behind city administration,” and added, “I will create changes that citizens can feel based on the opinions I hear directly from the field.”

Expanding public facilities and solving traffic problems

The area with the most opinions in this communication meeting was the expansion of public facilities (68 items). Residents requested the expansion of bus routes, installation of bus shelters, sidewalk maintenance, and road expansion. Some residents raised the need to replace old exercise equipment in the village park and install public restrooms.

In particular, there were many suggestions for finding solutions to solve the parking problem and improving the cramped Dong Administrative Welfare Center building. Mayor Lee Dong-hwan said, “We will quickly resolve issues that can be addressed immediately, and for projects that require a lot of budget, such as road expansion, we will prioritize them and push them forward in stages.”

Regarding the expansion of bus routes, he mentioned that approximately 80 billion won in maintenance costs are being invested annually, and emphasized that an efficient operation plan will be established through a comprehensive review of bus routes, rather than simply expanding routes.

Improving the urban environment and strengthening safety measures

The suggestions for improving the urban environment (53 cases) mainly included riverside maintenance, resolution of the livestock odor problem, and creation of walking paths. The city plans to regularly carry out weeding of riverside bicycle paths and embankment roads using the 2025 budget, and additionally consider creating walking paths and planting trees.

Regarding the problem of odor in livestock farms, we plan to continuously check whether livestock manure treatment facilities are operating normally and the quality of effluent water, and recommend that farm owners replace filters and clean the interior.

In addition, to prevent flooding, a 19,900㎥ underground storage tank will be installed at the Charcoal Pass Park in Tanhyeon-dong, and drainage capacity will be expanded by expanding the Gangmae Drainage Pump Station and the Shinpyeong Drainage Pump Station reservoir.

Citizen Participation and Sharing in City Administration

At this meeting, the city’s major policies and progress were also shared. Mayor Lee Dong-hwan said, “It is a great achievement that Goyang City was designated as an educational development special zone and a venture business promotion zone this year,” and “If the economic free zone designation project is successfully completed, Goyang City’s growth momentum will be further boosted.”

Mayor Lee Dong-hwan said, “We will do our best to ensure that the opinions suggested by residents are reflected in the city administration and bring about real changes,” adding, “We will continue to communicate with citizens and work to achieve sustainable growth in Goyang City and improve the quality of life for citizens.”

The suggestions received through this communication meeting will be carefully reviewed and implemented in stages, and Goyang City plans to continue to actively reflect residents’ opinions in city administration.
