Goyang Special City (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) announced on the 24th that it received the Minister of Public Administration and Security’s commendation for its contribution to the 2024 Ulchi exercise. This award is a result of achieving first place among 31 cities and counties in Gyeonggi Province in the Ulchi exercise evaluation and being recognized for successfully conducting real-world crisis response training.

During the Ulchi exercise held from August 19 to 22, Goyang City systematically conducted various training focused on real-life situations, including ▲ civil servant emergency assembly training ▲ evacuation and movement training ▲ discussion on current wartime issues ▲ training on counter-terrorism at multi-use facilities ▲ special training for evacuation of residents in border areas ▲ daily life-oriented resident participation training.

In particular, it attracted attention by operating a security and safety experience center to encourage citizen participation. ▲Exhibition of about 20 types of military equipment including tanks and armored vehicles ▲Real-life production and exhibition of garbage balloons ▲CPR training, etc., through various programs, citizens were able to experience the importance of security and safety.

On October 22, a joint civilian-government-military-police exercise was successfully conducted at KINTEX, assuming complex crisis situations such as drone terrorism, hostage terrorism, and sewage balloon terrorism. Through this, a close cooperative system was established between related organizations and crisis response capabilities were further strengthened.

Yoon Gwang-ok, the director of the Civil Safety Division, said, “This award is the result of the joint efforts of civil servants, related organizations, and citizens,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to establish an emergency preparedness system and continuously strengthen security capabilities to protect the safety of citizens.”
