Goyang Special City (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) announced that it held the ‘2024 Goyang City Resident Participation Committee 2nd General Meeting’ at the Baekseok Annex on the 20th. This meeting was held to review the activities of the Resident Participation Committee this year, reflect major agendas in the city administration, and discuss the 2025 operation plan.

The Citizens’ Participation Committee (Chairman Lee Dong-hwan) is a public-private cooperation organization where citizens discover various current issues, suggest solutions, and directly participate in the operation of city administration. This committee has been promoting practical public-private cooperation through expert meetings and educational programs.

The committee consists of two subcommittees, ‘Economic City’ and ‘Education and Culture’, and through 22 subcommittee meetings this year, a total of 41 policy agendas were discovered. Afterwards, through a process of research, field visits, and analysis of best practices, it was decided to propose 12 agendas to the city administration.

The meeting also deliberated on the 2025 annual operation plan (draft). The committee set the operation direction so that citizens’ opinions can be more systematically reflected in city administration through smooth and efficient operation.

Goyang Special City Mayor Lee Dong-hwan emphasized at the meeting that “one of the most important capabilities of a special city is decentralization, and the core of decentralization is not top-down policy decisions led by the government, but realizing public-private cooperation.” He continued, “True decentralization is achieved when policies are implemented by the hands of citizens and evaluated by the hands of citizens.”

Mayor Lee Dong-hwan also said, “The Resident Participation Committee has played an important role in uncovering various issues in Goyang City and preparing alternatives,” and asked, “Please continue to work actively in the future so that Goyang City can truly realize its value as a special city.”

Through this meeting, the Resident Participation Committee achieved tangible results by reflecting policy agendas in city administration, and plans to create a sustainable public-private cooperation model in the future.

Goyang Special City plans to continuously support the activities of the Resident Participation Committee and cooperate so that citizens’ voices can be reflected throughout the administration.
