Jung-gu, Incheon Metropolitan City announced on the 26th that it has installed a ‘model city forest’ certification signboard in the World Peace Forest located in Yeongjong International City. This is in response to the World Peace Forest being selected as the ‘2024 Model City Forest’ by the Korea Forest Service last November.
The World Peace Forest is a natural ecological park created in Unsudong in 2009 with the support of Incheon International Airport Corporation, lottery funds, and citizen funds. In particular, it has a unique environment where wetlands and tidal flats are in harmony, and various ecological attractions such as cherry blossom tree trails, Angol Reservoir lotus ponds, and bird watching platforms. The ecological learning program in operation has also received high ratings.
Jung-gu plans to make various efforts to develop the World Peace Forest into a more beautiful and ecologically stable urban forest with this certification as an opportunity. Next year, it plans to carry out a kudzu vine removal project and a forest management project to improve the landscape and stabilize the ecosystem.
