Cheonan City Disabled Sports Association, '2024 Cheonan City Disabled Sports Awards Ceremony' Completed

Cheonan City Disabled Sports Association successfully held the ‘2024 Cheonan City Disabled Sports Awards Ceremony’ at T-Wedding Cheonan on December 6. This event was designed to be a meaningful place to end the year by praising the hard work of disabled athletes and encouraging those and organizations who have contributed to the development of disabled sports.

This year’s awards ceremony was held on a grand scale with approximately 350 people in attendance, including Mayor of Cheonan Park Sang-don, Chairman of Cheonan City Council Kim Haeng-geum, Superintendent of Cheonan Office of Education Lee Byeong-do, members of the Cheonan City and Chungcheongnam-do Provincial Council, heads of member organizations, executives, athletes, and coaches.

Applause for the efforts of disabled athletes in Chungnam

The event was held in conjunction with the 30th Chungcheongnam-do Disabled Sports Competition Cheonan City Team Disbandment Ceremony. In appreciation of the dedication and efforts of the team representing Cheonan City in various disabled sports competitions this year, awards were given to organizations, players, and coaches who contributed to the development of disabled sports.

In particular, the event was made even more special by the presence of Jeong So-young, who won a silver medal in the women’s individual boccia event at the 17th Paris Paralympic Games. Jeong’s achievement received loud cheers and applause from the attendees, and became a moment to demonstrate the strength of Cheonan City’s disabled sports.

Honorable moments for winners

This year’s award recipients include a number of individuals and organizations who have been recognized for their contributions to and achievements in sports for the disabled.

  • Cheonan City Mayor’s Award : Cheonan City Disabled Badminton Association Park Mi-hyang and 3 others
  • Cheonan City Disabled Sports Association Chairman’s Award : Cheonan City Disabled Golf Association Jin Hyang-ju and 7 other individuals and Cheonan City Disabled Football Association
  • Cheonan City Council Chairman Award : 1 individual
  • Member of the National Assembly Award : 3 individuals
  • Chungcheongnam-do Cheonan Office of Education Superintendent Award : 3 individuals

The awardees and organizations were recognized for their contributions to raising the status of Cheonan City and developing disabled sports in various disabled sports activities throughout the year.

Towards Cheonan, a leading city for sports for the disabled

Cheonan Mayor Park Sang-don said at the awards ceremony, “I believe that the development of disabled sports is the starting point for improving the sports and welfare of all citizens,” and “I will spare no effort and provide various support so that Cheonan can establish itself as a leading city in disabled sports.” He continued, “I would like to thank everyone who has devoted themselves to the development of disabled sports, and I hope that today’s event will be a valuable time for us to encourage each other and share friendship.”

A step of hope towards the future

Cheonan City Disabled Sports Association is making continuous efforts to help disabled people in the region improve their quality of life through sports and expand their opportunities for social participation. This awards ceremony is evaluated as a place to celebrate the fruits of their efforts and strengthen their will to make a bigger leap forward in the future.

Cheonan City announced its ambition to create a sports culture where people with and without disabilities can participate together through policy support and infrastructure development to promote sports for the disabled.
