Goyang Special City Ilsanseo-gu Health Center was selected as an excellent organization in the ‘2024 Infectious Disease Vector Control Sector’ and ‘Malaria Prevention and Management’ hosted by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency and Gyeonggi Province, and received an institutional award. This is the result of recognition of systematic and preemptive response efforts to prevent and contain infectious diseases.

Goyang Special City (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) Ilsanseo-gu Health Center announced that it was selected as an excellent institution in the ‘2024 Infectious Disease Vector Control Sector’ and ‘Malaria Prevention and Management’ hosted by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency and Gyeonggi Province, and received an institutional award.
This award is a recognition of the Ilsanseo-gu Health Center’s achievements in implementing proactive and systematic quarantine measures on a periodic basis to prevent the spread of diseases caused by vectors of infectious diseases such as mosquitoes.
◇ Preemptive quarantine and infectious disease management performance
Malaria is an acute febrile disease caused by the bite of a mosquito infected with a protozoan parasite. This year, 711 patients were reported in Korea. Accordingly, Ilsanseo-gu Health Center formed a comprehensive quarantine team to thoroughly investigate vulnerable areas and focused on disinfecting and sterilizing areas where malaria patients were found.
In addition, we focused on shortening the time required for patient diagnosis through close cooperation with related organizations such as local medical associations and pharmaceutical associations, and quickly breaking the cycle of infection through early treatment.
◇ Strengthening cooperation with local communities
Ilsanseo-gu Health Center has further strengthened its cooperative system with the local community to prevent and spread infectious diseases. It has established a system to enable rapid patient diagnosis and treatment through cooperation with medical institutions, and has created an environment where citizens can live with peace of mind through continuous quarantine management in vulnerable areas.
◇ Continuous efforts of the public health center
A health center official said, “This award is the result of the health center’s proactive quarantine activities to prevent infectious diseases and cooperation with related organizations,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to build a tight infectious disease safety net so that citizens can live in a safe and pleasant environment.”
This award means that Ilsanseo-gu Health Center’s infectious disease response system has been recognized nationwide for its excellence, and it raises expectations for future infectious disease prevention and control activities.
