Jung-gu, Seoul (Mayor Gil-seong Kim) announced that it hired a total of 557 people and created an economic effect of 15.4 billion won through a customized job policy reflecting regional characteristics in 2024.
Jung-gu is an economic center with over 60,000 businesses and 450,000 employees, and there is a high demand for jobs in various fields such as finance, administration, tourism, and manufacturing. The district has established ‘Jung-gu Job Governance’ by utilizing these local resources and has established job policies that allow businesses and residents to coexist.
◆ Creating customized jobs linked to the tourism industry
Jung-gu has been promoting the training of hotel workers and travel operators, focusing on tourist attractions such as Myeongdong, Namsan, and Namdaemun. Through the ‘Hotel Worker Training Course’, 213 trainees were produced, and 78 of them were employed at 38 hotels, including Lotte Hotel and Shilla Stay.
The ‘Travel Industry Operator Training Course’, which was held in cooperation with Dongguk University to train travel industry professionals, produced 26 professionals, 14 of whom passed on-site interviews, and 2 of them successfully found employment.
◆ Redevelopment-related job creation
Jung-gu took advantage of the characteristics of the redevelopment project and operated a ‘pedestrian safety assistant training program’. It provided safety management training to middle-aged and older people, and 82 people graduated, of whom 32 found jobs. In particular, the high participation rate (86%) and employment rate of middle-aged and older people proved the success of the redevelopment-linked job model.
◆ Customized job support for each generation
- Youth: We have increased the employment competitiveness of the youth by operating programs such as the Youth Employment and Entrepreneurship Capacity Building Program, Employment Strategy Master Camp, and Web Novel Creation Course. Two writers have officially debuted in the Web Novel Course.
- Middle-aged and older: 7 people successfully found jobs through the ‘Cleaning and Quarantine Expert Training Course’, and 35 out of 54 trainees from the ‘Hospital Companion Manager Training Course’ found jobs in hospital companion work.
- Senior Citizens: We opened the ‘Senior Club’, a job creation organization for the elderly, and supported economic activities such as smart farm operation and coffee grounds recycling.
◆ Close support through the Job Plus Center
The ‘Jung-gu Job Plus Center’ has induced about 1,300 job seekers to register and helped about 600 people find employment. The center has supported matching between job seekers and companies through on-site job counseling and job fairs.
◆ 2025, expanding to more diverse jobs
Jung-gu plans to further expand its customized job policy in 2025. It plans to continue creating sustainable jobs by linking multicultural families with the restaurant industry, training pharmacy clerks for middle-aged and older people, training young pet professionals, and providing painting and flooring technology training.
Kim Gil-seong, the mayor of Jung-gu, said, “There is no welfare as powerful as jobs,” and added, “We will do our best to provide quality jobs so that all residents can work in the fields they want.”
