The city said that this award is the result of systematic statistical work to reflect the rapid urban changes in Yongin and to provide accurate data necessary for policy making. In particular, the city conducted a wide range of surveys, including business surveys, mining and manufacturing surveys, social surveys, and household housing basic surveys, to effectively understand changes throughout the city due to various development plans.
The survey targeting 120,000 businesses was conducted by sending professional investigators to the field, and thorough training was provided in advance to increase the accuracy of the survey. In addition, investigators directly visited the sites of 962 mining and manufacturing companies to thoroughly check the data, significantly enhancing the quality of the survey.
The statistics collected in this way are used as basic data for establishing various population policies and administrative plans of Yongin Special City. The related data is disclosed through the city homepage so that any citizen can view it, ensuring transparency and usability at the same time.
Mayor Lee Sang-il said, “Creating accurate and reliable statistics is the starting point of policy,” and “This award is the result of the national recognition of the quality and reliability of Yongin Special City’s statistical surveys.” He continued, “This achievement was possible thanks to the citizens and professional surveyors who faithfully responded to the survey process,” and expressed his gratitude. Mayor Lee added, “We will continue to improve the completeness of statistical surveys and create effective policies for citizens.”
This presidential award is evaluated as an example of Yongin Special City leading the way in statistical work among basic local governments and contributing to regional development through data-based administration.
