Goyang Special City has begun to formulate a strategy for promoting a distributed energy specialization area within the economic free zone. Through this, it plans to efficiently consume energy produced locally and promote new industries to revitalize the local economy.

Goyang Special City (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) announced that it held a ‘Report Meeting on the Commencement of the Research Service for the Establishment of a Strategy for the Promotion of Distributed Energy Specialized Areas in the Economic Free Zone’ on the 20th. This service is being conducted with the goal of realizing energy independence and revitalizing the local economy, and Korea East-West Power Co., Ltd., Goyang City Management Corporation, and Laon Friends Co., Ltd. are participating.
This study will be conducted in accordance with the enforcement of the Special Act on Activation of Distributed Energy (June 14, 2024), focusing on the JDS district in the Goyang Free Economic Zone. The distributed energy specialized area will be subject to special direct power transaction provisions and will be designed to directly consume energy produced in the region. This is expected to suppress the construction of new transmission lines and contribute to the stabilization of the power grid.
The key to the distributed energy specialized region is to closely analyze energy demand and supply and to organize and operate optimal distributed resources. Through this, the plan is to reduce carbon emissions and supply cheap and stable clean energy.
This service includes ▲design of an energy self-sufficiency system ▲direct electricity transaction plan ▲new industry fostering strategy, and the power supply plan for the nearby Daegok Station area knowledge convergence complex and Ilsan Techno Valley will also be reviewed.
Lee Do-yeon, the director of Goyang City’s Climate and Energy Bureau, said, “Through this research project, we will establish a plan to supply cheap and stable clean energy suitable for the carbon-neutral era,” adding, “Through this, we will strengthen corporate competitiveness and achieve energy independence within the Goyang Free Economic Zone.”
Goyang City plans to complete a practical and efficient distributed energy specialized region promotion strategy through interim and final report meetings through this research service.
