Goyang Special City (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) announced on the 19th that it received an award of excellence at the ‘2024 Local Taxpayer Rights Promotion Best Practices Integrated Presentation Contest’ hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Korea Local Tax Research Institute.
This competition was designed to discover and share best practices in protecting taxpayer rights in local governments across the country, and a total of 89 cases were submitted nationwide. After the first round of written reviews, 15 cases were selected for the final round, and Goyang City made a presentation under the theme, “Taxpayer Protection Officers, Become the Eyes and Ears of Taxpayers!”
Goyang City has been carrying out various support activities to resolve the difficulties taxpayers experience due to lack of understanding of tax laws and to protect their rights. Major achievements include ▲cancellation and refund of illegal and unfair taxation measures ▲release of ineffective seized assets ▲support for objections and other appeals ▲operation of on-site consultation windows for taxpayer protection officers ▲efforts to improve unreasonable systems, etc.
In particular, the Taxpayer Advocate system was evaluated as having helped taxpayers resolve issues more quickly and accurately, thereby realizing practical protection of rights with a high level of citizen awareness.
The city strengthened communication with taxpayers through on-site consultation windows and focused on actively resolving unreasonable cases that may arise during the tax assessment process.
City officials said, “This award is recognition of the various activities we have pursued to protect taxpayer rights,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to further activate the taxpayer protection officer system and to provide citizens with tangible rights protection and trustworthy tax administration.”
Goyang City plans to continue to prioritize taxpayers’ rights and interests and establish itself as a trustworthy local government through transparent and fair tax administration.
