Yongin Special City (Mayor Lee Sang-il) announced on the 29th that it will increase the charging incentive for the local currency Yongin Wi-Fi from the existing 7% to 10% during the first month of the new year. As a result, citizens will be able to enjoy real benefits as they will be able to use 330,000 won when charging 300,000 won.

The city aims to revitalize the stagnant local economy ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday and to support small business owners to increase their sales through this measure. The monthly charging limit is limited to 300,000 won per person, and Yongin Wi-Fi can be used at approximately 26,000 affiliated stores, including restaurants, hospitals, and academies with annual sales of 1.2 billion won or less.

In particular, customers using Samsung Pay can register Yongin Wi-Pay in the app to make payments easily without a physical card. The list of merchants can be conveniently checked through the Gyeonggi Regional Currency app or website.

Yongin City recorded a total of 700 million won in interest income through local currency operations this year. This is the result of efficient fund management through thorough analysis of monthly fund demand and interest rate fluctuations using time deposit accounts and MMDAs. The city plans to use this income as funds for issuing local currency to provide better benefits to citizens.

City officials said, “In order to revitalize the local economy for the new year, we have temporarily expanded the Yongin Wi-Fi charging incentive,” and added, “We hope that citizens will actively use local currency to coexist with small business owners.”
