On Friday, the 3rd, at 10:20 AM, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon met with a newborn baby and his mother, the first of their kind born in the year of Eulsa (乙巳年), at Seoul Medical Center (Sinnae-dong, Jungnang-gu), to congratulate them and strengthen his determination to overcome the low birth rate.

Mayor Oh, who visited the delivery room, congratulated the birth of the baby, saying, “I wish that Soonsan (name) will grow up healthy and have big dreams together with his older brother and become a person who is like a light to the world.”
Mayor Oh then moved to the Fertility Center. He told Center Director Kim Min-jung that “although Seoul Medical Center is not as large as other infertility specialty hospitals, the success rate for infertility treatments is high thanks to its solid research team, and the cost of egg freezing treatments is also low,” adding that “this is very welcome information for those who desperately want to have a baby,” and that “we will actively support so that more couples struggling with infertility, not only in Seoul but across the country, can know about and use the ‘Seoul Medical Center Fertility Center.’”
Seoul City is expanding support for babies and caregivers this year through the <Seoul Birth Support Project Season 2>. Starting in 2025, ▴Operation of the ‘Birth Support Mall’ for childcare product sales ▴Maternity allowance support for self-employed individuals, etc. ▴300,000 won per month for housing expenses for households without a home after giving birth to a child will be newly implemented.
In addition, ▴ expansion of daycare centers providing emergency childcare support for infants and toddlers (from 530 in 2024 to 548 in 2025), ▴ expansion of specialized part-time daycare centers in Seoul (from 9 in 2024 to all autonomous districts in 2025), and ▴ expansion of the 100th-day photo shoot space at the Seoul Toy Library (from 8 in 2024 to all autonomous districts in 2025) are also planned.
