In particular, this market explained that, in relation to traffic safety, “a traffic culture that prioritizes pedestrian safety is essential,” and that, “Yongin City has already designated the area from the Kimryangjang-dong Unification Park Intersection to the Yongin Intersection as a model street for basic traffic order and is currently installing STOP signs and promoting traffic rules.”

Kim Jong-gil, the chief of Yongin Eastern Police Station, emphasized, “Last year, Mayor Lee Sang-il proposed a pedestrian-first campaign using STOP signs, which greatly increased citizens’ awareness of traffic safety,” and “We will further develop this campaign in cooperation with relevant organizations.”
In addition, it was agreed to promote the ‘Pink Shirt Day’ campaign twice in March and April with the participation of heads of relevant organizations to prevent school violence.
The mayor said about expanding traffic safety facilities, “We are installing smart crosswalks using AI technology, an automatic pedestrian signal extension system, and a right-turn vehicle warning system,” and “We will continue to secure as much budget as possible to prioritize citizen safety.”
At the meeting that day, awards were presented to five people who contributed to creating a safety culture and disaster management.
The ‘Safety Culture Salon’ is the first of its kind in the country, where the heads of local government agencies, including the city, police, fire department, and education office, regularly gather to discuss measures to ensure the safety of citizens. Starting with the first meeting in December 2023, it has achieved various results, including ▲subscribing to citizen safety insurance ▲installing rooftop evacuation facilities in apartments ▲safety management of slopes around schools.
Through this, Yongin Special City is playing a leading role in ensuring citizen safety by achieving numerous achievements including receiving the Presidential Citation for three consecutive years in the disaster management evaluation and being selected as an excellent safety-related organization.
