The Yuryang Food Culture Street is a historical site where King Taejo Wang Geon of Goryeo stockpiled military supplies, and it holds the long-standing story of the Yuryang area that served as the center of a strategic forward base. Currently, it is a representative tourist destination in Cheonan with tourist attractions such as Taejo Wang Geon Park and Gakwonsa Temple, leisure facilities such as Taejosan Mountain and Taejosan Forest Sports, and cultural infrastructure such as the Lee Gak Art Museum. About 100 excellent restaurants are densely packed along this 3.7km section, providing a variety of culinary experiences.

The symbolic sculpture installed this time expresses the harmony between tradition and modernity by arranging a set of spoons and chopsticks in five cardinal colors diagonally around an elegant white porcelain bowl that contains the sentiment of Korean food culture. In particular, the center of the white porcelain bowl was designed in an open shape so that Taejosan Mountain can be seen naturally, providing visual pleasure to visitors and connecting it with the identity of the Yuryang Food Culture Street.

Guide signs were installed at three locations: the entrance to Yuryang-dong, in front of the community center, and along the outer road, to help visitors find their way easily. Lighting was installed on both the sculptures and signs, brightening up the atmosphere of Yuryang-dong not only during the day but also at night, creating a unique landscape.

Cheonan Mayor Park Sang-don said, “The food culture street should not simply be a space to enjoy food, but should also have a combination of historical value and cultural elements.” He added, “Through the installation of this symbolic sculpture, we expect that the Yuryang Food Culture Street will strengthen Cheonan’s unique food culture and identity and greatly contribute to the revitalization of the local economy and tourism.”

Cheonan City plans to continue its efforts to develop Yuryang Food Culture Street into an even more attractive tourist attraction through this project and to establish it as a space loved by both local residents and visitors.
