Professor Emeritus Jae-Chan Kim of the Department of Ophthalmology, College of Medicine, Chung-Ang University will hold an exhibition of collage photos and video works on the theme of ‘Microcosm in the Eye’ at Gallery La Mer in Insa-dong, Seoul from January 15 to 21.

This exhibition is part of the Photo Master graduation exhibition that Professor Kim is holding after completing a three-year training course at the Chung-Ang University Lifelong Education Center Photography Center. He will present an artwork based on ophthalmic images by collaging images of the tear film layer and fat layer of the eyeball.
The works express the microscopic universe that Professor Kim discovered while observing patients’ eyes as a doctor. He explained that the outermost fatty layer of the tear film shows various colors due to the interference of light, and that these colors visually reveal the movement of the microcosm inside the eye. He also added that the ever-changing patterns of the tear film not only create artistic wonders, but also serve as important clues to understanding the patient’s health condition.
Professor Kim said that through these works, he hopes to explore the microscopic universe within the eye and feel that humans are part of a vast universe.
The exhibition venue, Gallery La Mer, is located at 26 Insa-dong 5-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul, and the exhibition is open from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is free.
This exhibition is a unique attempt to combine medicine and art, and is expected to provide visitors with a new visual experience.
