In the ‘2024 Public Opinion Survey’ conducted by Songpa-gu (Songpa-gu Mayor Seo Kang-seok), residents showed high satisfaction with the ‘Songpa-daero Luxury Street Creation’ and ‘Cultural Arts and Tourism Infrastructure Expansion’ projects. In particular, the cultural and leisure life sector showed a significant increase compared to the previous year, and residents’ positive evaluations of improved living conditions stood out.

Songpa-gu announced the results of the ‘2024 Public Opinion Survey’ conducted on 1,009 residents from November 15 to 24. This survey was conducted in the form of one-on-one interviews, and was conducted to understand residents’ perceptions of the district administration and set future policy directions in the third year of the 8th local government.

◆ Core business satisfaction 88.4%… ‘Songpa-daero’ and ‘culture and arts’ stand out

According to the survey results, the satisfaction level for Songpa-gu’s core projects was tallied at 88.4%. In particular, the ‘Songpa-daero Luxury Street Creation’ and ‘Cultural Arts Tourism Infrastructure Expansion’ projects received the highest evaluations, recording 89.0% satisfaction each.

The number one ‘excellent project contributing to the development of the district’ chosen by residents was also ‘creation of Songpa-daero luxury street’ (49.8%), followed by ‘rapid promotion of redevelopment and reconstruction’ (33.5%), ‘development of new city brand’ (24.6%), and ‘cultural and arts festival’ (24.0%).

The district analyzed that these results reflect the residents’ expectations for Songpa-daero to be transformed into a luxury street with a lot to see and enjoy, making it enjoyable to walk.

◆ High response in the cultural and artistic fields… Increased satisfaction with housing conditions

In terms of performance by field, ‘Culture and Arts’ (33.8%) received the greatest response. This is more than twice as high as the second-ranked ‘Education and Childcare’ (16.1%).

This year, Songpa-gu expanded various cultural and artistic infrastructures centered around Seokchon Lake, including the opening of ‘The Gallery Lake’, major renovation of ‘Seoul Playground’, and hosting of ‘Luminarie’. These projects are interpreted as providing residents with real satisfaction.

In addition, positive changes were detected in the satisfaction level of living conditions. 89.7% of respondents evaluated the ‘Songpa-gu living conditions’ as ‘good to live in’, and ‘culture and leisure life’ (53.9%) was selected as the main satisfaction factor. This is a figure that increased by 15.8%p compared to the previous year, and satisfaction was particularly prominent among the younger age group in their 20s.

◆ The challenge to be solved is ‘economy and jobs’… The vision for the future is ‘an affluent city’

The most frequently mentioned issue for Songpa-gu to address in the second half of the 8th local government was ‘economy and jobs’ (27.8%). This is a result reflecting residents’ high expectations for revitalizing the local economy and creating jobs.

In addition, the future vision of Songpa-gu that residents want was revealed to be ‘a prosperous city where housing, jobs, economy, and nature are in harmony’ (26.9%).

◆ Promoting policies that reflect citizens’ expectations

Songpa-gu District Mayor Seo Kang-seok said, “We were able to achieve meaningful results thanks to the support and interest of our residents,” and added, “We will actively reflect the results of this public opinion survey in next year’s district administration to complete ‘Songpa, a prestigious city where it is great to live.’”

The high level of satisfaction and policy expectations among residents confirmed through this public opinion survey are expected to be important indicators for Songpa-gu to further implement resident-centered administration in the future.
